Alternative Vista aims are threefold. To:

  1. Undertake ethnographic research which is socially necessary and politically ignored, and which is not recognised by international and national funding calls. This means the study conditions are often harsh or dangerous social environments with conflictive social groups.
  2. Document by means of participant observation and interiewing the experiences and perspectives of the people under study over a period of time to generate an accurate picture of their lifeworlds to then arrive at grounded, sensible conclusions as to why they think, feel and do what they do.
  3. And – while remaining completely true to the realities of the people under study – communicate this knowledge through publications, conferences and seminar presentations, in blogs and media interviews to create awareness about these issues in an effort to change how people think about them and/or how they should be treated.
